Batter Up

• Baseball in Wii Sports may aim to have players mimic the movements of the real game. But if you want to boost your chances of hitting a home run every time you're at bat, exploit one of the Wii Remote's motion-sensing weaknesses. When you're at bat, don't hold the remote as you would a baseball bat. Instead, keep it at your side, pointing up. Watch for the pitcher to throw the ball, and right before the ball reaches the plate, flick the Wii Remote forward. The Wii will detect a high-speed bat swing and send the ball flying. This will also decrease the likelihood that you're swinging too early or too late, as it can be difficult to judge when to begin and end your swing. Treat batting in Wii Sports: Baseball as you would hitting a tennis ball in Wii Sports: Tennis. Tight flicks will send your virtual opponent to the locker room in shame.

Pitching

• When you're trying to strike the batter out, never attempt to use only fastballs. Instead, change up your pitches, using the different buttons of your Wii Remote. If you're dealing with a batter who is hitting every one of your pitches, hold down "A" as you swing the Wii Remote to execute a screwball. The pitch will veer off to the right of the batter. Holding down "B" while pitching will send a curveball to the left. Alternate these two pitches to prevent the batter from adapting to your pitching methods.

  If you find yourself facing a player who knows the timing of every fastball, screwball and curveball you throw, introduce the changeup. Slowly bring the Wii Remote forward during the pitch, and your onscreen character will begin to mimic a fastball before tossing a slow pitch. The difference in speed will make the batter swing too early or too late.

Victory In Minutes

• Wii Sports: Baseball features an interpretation of the mercy rule that awards victory to a team that leads by five runs or more at the end of one inning. Use this rule to your advantage. If you prevent your opponent from scoring runs through the use of an alternating pitching style and then exploit batting to ensure consistent runs, you will win each game quickly.
