Animal Crossing Wii: Hints & Tips

Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii continues the series that originated on the Nintendo Gamecube. Players act out the daily life of a resident in a town filled with animal neighbors. Performing tasks for your neighbors will reward you with furniture for your home and outfits for your character. There is no end to the game, and players are encouraged to visit their virtual friends daily, as they would visit friends in the real world.
  1. The Happy Room Academy

    • Before throwing every piece of furniture you receive into your room, take a moment to learn about the Happy Room Academy. Think of them as the "What Not to Wear" of interior design. You'll receive updates on how stylish your room is or how much it is completely lacking in style. These updates show up in your mailbox and feature a point system that is never clearly explained within the game itself. There are criteria to follow when arranging your room to ensure you receive praise from Lyle, the head of the Happy Room Academy who is based out of the City.

The first criteria is Feng Shui, and while this may be daunting to players at first, the implementation is actually very simple. All yellow items should be placed on the west wall, the east wall should house red items, and green items should be on the south wall. Don't worry about having every color depicted, as it is better to have one color in your room than sacrifice points by having a mix of unmatched furniture.

Filling your room with Lucky Items will net you 7,777 points per item. You can't afford to leave them out of your room. Visit Tom Nook's store and look for any item with the word "lucky" in the name, as well as any Spotlight Items offered in the store. If you've spent your time making money, depositing 10,000,000 bells into your ABD account will give you the Piggy Bank.

There are 10 pieces of furniture in per style, and obtaining them all will earn you 20,000 points. This is where one color outweighs Feng Shui. Furniture can be obtained by completing tasks, visiting Tom Nooks or Crazy Red's, and also trading other players for missing pieces.

If you achieve a high enough score, you'll be rewarded with three different house models that you can display in your own room.

    Being an Environmentalist

    • Don't just focus on making your room beautiful; spend time creating a suitable living environment for all of your neighbors. You'll notice as you are strolling around town that weeds will pop up in the grass. Whenever you come upon a weed, drop what you're doing and pull it. Allowing weeds to grow unchecked can lead to angry townspeople, and neighbors might leave for a new town.

Don't just pull weeds; plant trees and flowers. A tree must be planted in a spot where it is surrounded on all sides by dirt, meaning don't plant two trees right next to one another or right beside a rock. As for flowers, cover every acre of the town with them. If you ever come across an acre that has no flowers, plant them. Spare bells should be spent on flowers, as they are inexpensive and reward you with pleasant neighbors.

In keeping the town free of weeds, also pick up anything you find lying on the ground that isn't a fruit or a flower. Use the recycling bin to get rid of junk or sell extra clothing or furniture to Tom Nook for extra spending money.

    Animals in the City

    • Unlike previous games in the series, Animal Crossing: City Folks gives you a new area to explore--a bustling city filled with additional shops and services.

While Tom Nook's store is perfect for essential items, visit Redd's Emporium for rare pieces of furniture. Increase your emotions by seeing a show at The Marquee; there are four shows per week and new emotions can be used in response to other characters within the game.

If you're looking to update your look, visit GracieGrace for high end fashions (starting at 3,000 bells) and furniture to complete your sets. You can change your hairstyle at Shampoodle and even select a mask to wear to resemble one of the Mii's on your console.

Finally, if you are willing to risk a potential negative outcome, visit Katrina's House of Fortunes. For 100 bells, you'll receive a fortune that can range from positive--such as finding money wherever you did--to negative--such as tripping every couple of steps.
