How to Set Up the Wii on a Computer With a Wireless Router

The Nintendo Wii offers a combination of fun video games and real physical activity. Connecting the Wii to an existing wireless Internet connection will allow you to watch the news, check the weather, surf the Internet, download game demos to try and more. You can even download games only available from the WiiWare channel using your Wii points or play against other Wii users.

      Turn on the Wii console and go to the main menu. Use a controller to click the "Wii" button, which is in the lower left-hand corner. Select "Wii Settings" on the settings menu. Go to page 2 of the "System Settings" menu. Click on "Internet."

      Click the first connection in the "Connection Settings" window that is not currently in use. It will say "None" to the right of the connection number. Click on "Wireless Connection," and then click on "'Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector." You will see a message telling you to install the Wi-Fi connector on your computer.

      Turn on the computer and insert the disc that accompanies the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. Click "OK" on the setup window and choose a language. Insert the Wi-Fi connector into a USB port when prompted. Click the Wii icon in the system tray, near the computer clock, to register the Wii console.

      Click "Next" on the Wii screen after you have installed the connector onto the computer. Go back to the computer and click the name of your Wii in the Registration Tool window. Click on "Grant permission to connect."

      Go back to the Wii. The display will notify you that setup is complete. Click "Next." Click "OK" to initiate a connection test. When the display shows "Success," the game is connected to the Internet and ready for use.
