How to Use My Wiimote As a Boxee Remote

The Wiimote is a wireless controller used by the Nintendo Wii gaming console. With the Wiimote, you can control a hand-shaped cursor on the Wii's gaming interface via an IR bar connected to the console. Boxee, which is a media center program that allows users to aggregate all of their music, videos and online content in one interface on a single computer, can be used in conjunction with the Wiimote and Bluetooth via a program that converts the controller's signal into something your computer understands.

Turn on the computer that has Boxee installed, then launch Boxee. If the computer doesn't have built-in Bluetooth, connect a Bluetooth dongle to the computer's USB port, then insert the driver disc that came with the dongle into your computer's disc drive to install its drivers. Follow the on-screen installation prompts that appear to install the driver. Once finished, remove the disc, then click "Start," then "Restart" to reboot the machine.

Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the Wiimote; this will cause it to attempt to connect with your computer. Select "Add Bluetooth Device" on your computer when prompted, then select "Nintendo" from the list of discovered devices. Select "No Passkey," then click "Connect." The Wiimote will be connected with your computer via Bluetooth.

Download Glovepie, a program that allows your computer to communicate with a game controller, at glovepie.org. Click the downloaded file to launch the program; it doesn't have to be installed. Click "Troubleshooter," then select "Bluetooth Fix." Click "Run" and this will apply a fix that corrects a connection issue the computer experiences when connected to the device. The Wiimote will now work correctly with your computer. Move it around to verify that the cursor moves.
