How the "Epic Mickey" Save System Works
"Epic Mickey" uses an auto-save feature that saves your game at key moments such as completing a quest, finding a pin, or beating a boss. Because the game is trying to tell a story, the developers designed it to move you forward along with the narrative. Enabling players to go back and restart previous levels would disrupt the story, so it is not allowed. In addition, because the game offers "Hero" or "Scrapper" choices throughout the game, after you've made a choice you are forced to live with it. The best thing to do is take your time and try to find every hidden secret in a level before moving on.
Revisiting Previous Levels
Within a single game you are very limited in the way you can revisit levels you have already been to. In some instances you will have to backtrack to move forward, revisiting areas you have already played to turn in quests or reach places that were blocked off to you before. Other areas, like Mean Street, are hubs that serve as a connector to other levels and will be available for most of the game. For the most part though, after you jump into the movie screen at the end of a level you are done with that area. Be sure you've checked every part of a level before jumping into the movie screen to move on as it's likely you won't be going back there again.
Starting a New Game
"Epic Mickey" allows you to have three separate game files. Using a different save file to start a new game is the easiest way to replay a level from the beginning. This may sound frustrating, but because the game allows you to take the "Hero" or "Scrapper" path, its not a bad idea to have one file for the "Hero" playthrough and another for the "Scrapper" playthrough. Seeing the different ways the story can play out based on your decisions can be very interesting.
New Game +
After you have beaten "Epic Mickey" once, you can start a "New Game +" on your existing save file. This allows you to play through the game from the beginning but keep everything you earned on your first playthrough such as tickets, pins and so on. This is a great way for completionists to get all the stuff they missed on their first playthrough. New Game + files are indicated by a portrait of Mickey Mouse in the upper right corner.
