How to Beat Pirates of the Wasteland in Epic Mickey

Disney's "Epic Mickey" for the Wii gaming system marks the glorious return of Mickey Mouse after decades out of the limelight, proving that, even in the 21st Century, the old mouse can still carry a story and move crowds with heartfelt story telling and character development. The mechanics of "Epic Mickey" transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional and use a paint thinner gameplay mechanic that attempts to blend cartoon with reality. 

Instructions

  1. Ventureland

    • 1

      Walk over to Smee and talk to him. He'll be the one on the ground crying. Smee will tell you to find the Ship's Wheel, Figurehead and Compass from three different areas. Talk to Tiki Sam in the Tiki Hut to start the quest for the Ship's Wheel. 

    • 2

      Find the first Tiki Mask at the top of the treehouse behind Smee. The second one is on top of the waterwheel in the upper left of the area. To reach it, run along the roof and platforms from the Tiki Hut or by riding a platform up from the wheel. Locate the third Tiki Mask in a thinned-out section of the building at the end of the stage by jumping on the thatch roof next to it and jumping over to the Tiki Mask.

      Bring the masks back to Tiki Sam and receive the Ship's Wheel. Leave the hut and walk to the left to find Damien Salt. He will want flowers or ice cream as a gift to Henrietta. Leave and talk to Henrietta to learn that she is lactose-intolerant.

      Jump through the projector screen to Mean Street and enter OsTown. Enter Clarabell's home, who will tell you you need a bouquet.

      Go outside and thin out Clarabell's flower grader to find the first flower in the pit. Thin the wall behind Ortensia's house for the second flower. Thin the wall next to the sunken boat in the small strip of land for the third and final flower. Take the flowers back to Clarabell so she can make the bouquet for Henrietta.

      Take the bouquet to Damien Salt and receive the Figurehead and Ventureland Romance Pin. Talk to Scurvy Pat, the guy pacing at the right side of the stage to start a quest for the Compass. He will want you to find his lost treasure in the treehouse and gives you a key.

      Jump across the rafts and avoid the waves and Swordfish. Jump on the bird's backs and tree canopies until you read the "Castaway: Part I" reel. Leap from the tree while avoiding the coconut-rolling beast and leave through the projector.

      Talk to Beluga Billy, who offers to open the exit screen in exchange for his "lost bag o' booty." Jump across the boats in the lake of thinner to the hut and find Billy's lost bag on the roof. Return the bag to Billy. When he sees the bag is full of rocks and not his booty, Billy tasks you with going to the jail to find the pirates who looted him and also gives you the Clock sketch.

      Free the pirates and learn that Billy's booty is at the bottom of a now-opened walkway. Thin the second door you find to the right after leaving the jailhouse to locate the walkway. Beat the Splatters and turn the four gears next to the four pillars. Spin the two pillars closest to the exit and use the clock sketch to slow down time. Extend the other two pillars and they all should touch the ceiling. Spin the gear on the back wall to find Billy's booty.

      Take Beluga Billy's booty back and exit out the projector screen.

    Jungle Rhythm: Part II 

    • 11

      Jump to the tree limb on the first tree and jump to the top of the swaying tree on the right. Wait for the tops of the trees to align and jump over to the next one until you reach the large dead tree with the "Jungle Rhythm: Part II" reel. Jump over the two ostriches onto the elephant's back and double jump to the exit screen. 

    • 12

      Go down the path to the right of the Jungle entrance where you'll come across a fallen tree with a pirate on the other side. The pirate, named Starkey, proposes to open the path to Skull Island if you find the three symbols on the moss-covered rocks in the Jungle.

      Find the first symbol by thinning the wooden wall to the right of the area's beginning, then thin the moss on the large rock inside. Find the second symbol on the plateau to the left of the area's beginning by painting a bridge across, painting another platform on the wall and thinning the moss on the rock. Locate the third and final symbol at the back of the stage in-between two roots of the large tree.

      Go to the entrance and thin the wall to the left to reveal a cave entrance. Defeat the Spladoosh and collect the red jewel around the corner. Find the next jewel on a boat floating in the thinner by the level's entrance and another one by the giant leaf at the stage's right-hand wall. Thin the wall next to where you first found Starkey to find another jewel. Jump across the gap where Starkey is pacing and cross the bridge to the back of the large tree to find the final jewel.

      Place a jewel in the middle area's left-most statue. Place two jewels in the second statue over and one more in the last one. Paint the tinned out jewels on the empty statue and jump to the top. Talk to Starkey and he will open the door of Hangman's Tree. Enter the tree and exit through the screen.

    The Whalers

    • 16

      Jump the icebergs to the right and avoid the explosive barrels. Spin the crank near the end of the ship and jump onto the bird's backs and onto the whale. 

    • 17

      Wait for the blowhole to stop spraying and run to the right to find "The Whalers" reel.

    • 18

      Drop through the blowhole and jump into the exit screen to Tortooga. 

    • 19

      Talk to the pirates on the upper walkway for sketches and paint and thinner refills.

    • 20

      Talk to Starkey and he gives you the Pirate Hero Pin to pen to the Pirate Voyage entrance. 

    Castaway: Part II  

    • 21

      Jump the platforms and land and duck under the first spider. 

    • 22

      Wait for the next spider to drop over the hole in the ground and jump on its back and double jump across to the top of the tree on the left. 

    • 23

      Jump to the right-side tree and onto the spider's back to ride it over to "The Castaway: Part II" reel. 

    • 24

      Jump across the rotating platforms and thin the gears on the wall when the platform turns horizontal. 

    • 25

      Turn the corner and talk to Gus who tells you to find three pumps in the area to fix the ride. 

    Pirate Voyage

    • 26

      Find the first pump behind the gate on the left side of the river by thinning the roof. The second pump is located above the first behind a thin-able wall past the wooden bridge. Find the third pump at the end of the right side of the river near the impassable gate by thinning the building around the door. 

    • 27

      Ride the boat down the river and jump off to the left before the vortex swallows your ride. Thin the gate in front of the Gremlin's cage and release the Gremlin. After he opens the gate, go through it to find a pirate name Rigger Greene and talk to him.

      Jump to the second gate on the right of the river and thin the gate to go into the hallway. 

    • 29

      Beat the Splatter and Sweeper and jump through the spiked smasher in the middle of the room. 

    • 30

      Hop onto the boat as it comes out of the vortex and jump over to the left toward the exit. 

    Shanghaied

    • 31

      Jump to the desk on the right and back over to the left. 

    • 32

      Avoid the weak floor and fire, then jump up to the next level. 

    • 33

      Wait for Pete to swing a bottle at you and retreat back into the window, then go up to the deck. 

    • 34

      Spin attack the fireworks box and jump along the sails on the masts to the left. 

    • 35

      Hop on the left cloud by the fireworks and jump over to the "Shanghaied" reel and go back down to the exit leading to Skull Island. 

    Skull Island

    • 36

      Jump across the rock platforms to the large area with the Splatters, Sweeper and Pirate-bot. Fight them or run away and jump over to the island on the left and climb the stairs to the right. Beat the Sweeper and thin the stalagmite at the right to find a gear. Spin the gear to open the gate at the front of the cave. Jump down and thin the anchor. 

    • 37

      Travel across the front of the giant skull alongside the ledge. Fill the tank you find with either paint or thinner. Filling it with paint turns the Pirate-bots into humans, while filling it with thinner breaks the Pirate-making Beetleworx machine. 
       

    • 38

      Move along the ledge until you come across the three masts sunken in thinner. Thin the mast tops and jump across them to the island. Thin the rocks to find an anchor and thin the anchor. Use the floating boats to go back to the main island and climb the grounded ship and jump to the back ledge of Skull Island. Talk to Pete Pan on top of Skull Island who tasks you with freeing his Sprite aboard Captain Hook's ship.

      Jump down the ledges and thin the wooden part of the ledge. Slide down the ramp. Turn around and jump across the platforms to a third island. Jump up the back ledges to the top of the island and thin out the light-colored section.

      Thin the anchor to raise Smee's boat. Go to the bottom of the main island to find the final pump. Fill it with either paint or thinner. Head to Smee's boat and paint the steering wheel and leave for the Jolly Roger. 

    Captain Hook

    • 41

      Stay on the main deck to fight Captain Hook or go up the stairs to release Pete Pan's Sprite. Choose to give Pete Pan his redemption by letting him fight Captain Hook instead. To do this, paint the thinned staircase on the left side of the deck and go up the stairs to paint the treasures and boxes. 

    • 42

      Paint the sail on the mast over and jump on the platform. Continue to do so until you reach a gear. Paint the gear to go up another level. 

    • 43

      Thin the net full of barrels to lower the opposite platform. Jump across to the next mast and thin the two weighted bags where Hook is. Paint the large sacks attached to the rope to raise the right-side platform. 

    • 44

      Paint the sail on the last mast followed by the gear on the platform. Thin the weighted bags if they come back and paint the gears Hook thins. 

    • 45

      Hop over to the final mast and sail back out. The Sprite will lift you up and Pete Pan will fight Hook for you.
