Softmodding is the term used to describe any modification made to the basic operating system of your gaming system, like the Wii 4.2, that makes it function beyond the manufacturers specifications. Customarily, softmods are done to allow the gaming system to play games from other types of gaming systems or install specific game cheats. The process of how to softmod a Nintendo Wii 4.2 is fairly straightforward.

Instructions

  Download the Homebrew Channel application (see Resources) onto your computer.

  Insert the first SD memory card into the memory card reader, then plug the cable from the card reader into an available USB port. A folder for the memory card will automatically appear on your computer desktop.

  Drag-and-drop the Homebrew application file into the SD card folder, then remove the memory card from the reader.

  Insert the SD card into the SD card slot on your Wii 4.2 console, then press the "power" button to turn the system on. The Homebrew application will automatically start up and install itself onto your Wii system. remove the SD card from the slot.

  Download the Wii 4.2 softmod file pack (see Resources) onto your computer.

  Insert the second SD memory card into the memory card reader, then plug the cable from the card reader into an available USB port. A folder for this memory card will automatically appear on your computer desktop.

  Drag-and-drop the Wii 4.2 softmod file pack into the SD card folder, then remove the memory card from the reader.

  Insert the second SD card into the SD card slot on your Wii 4.2, then use the controller directional buttons to scroll to the "Homebrew Channel" in the main menu and press the "Enter" button.

  Select the "Multi mod Manager" option, then press the "Down" button and "A" to select the "****8216" listing on the screen. Select the "Patch IOS36.***8217" option and press "Enter" to install it.

  Press "A" to select "Express" mode, then press "Enter" to initiate the modification process.
