Wii Infant Games

The Electronic Software Rating Board, or ESRB, was formed in 1994 as a method to enforce video game ratings based on content. The ESRB established the Early Childhood (EC) rating to indicate which games feature content and game play suitable for children 3 years of age and older. The Nintendo Wii features nine titles designated with the EC rating, with both retail and downloadable titles available.
  1. Sesame Street

    • Three Wii titles from the "Sesame Street" franchise display the Early Childhood Rating. "Sesame Street: Ready Set, Grover!" consists of physical mini games featuring characters from the series, focusing on running through obstacle courses and serving food to characters. "Sesame Street: Cookie's Counting Carnival" allows players to explore a carnival while completing number, pattern and shape-based activities. "Sesame Street: Elmo's A-to-Zoo Adventure" teaches children about animals through activities involving spelling and rhythm.

    Learning with the Poo Yoos

    • Available through the WiiWare downloadable games service, the "Learning with the PooYoos" episodic games series focuses on the game's namesake band of baby animals through a series of education-based mini games. Each episode focuses on different types of lessons, with alphabet, color and word identification among the lessons. The "Learning with the PooYoos" series is designed for play without requiring reading skills.

    Reader Rabbit Preschool

    • "Reader Rabbit Preschool" teaches children about colors, shapes and words through mini games focused around an adventure to locate jewels. Reader Rabbit and his friends join the player as he explores the game world and completes the mini games and learning challenges.

    The Very Hungry Caterpillar's ABCs

    • Another downloadable title, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar's ABCs" teaches children about the alphabet and word association through a series of learning challenges based on the children's book of the same name. Throughout the activities, which include drawing and coloring in addition to word recognition, players will learn more than 140 basic words. Additional content can be downloaded for the title, increasing the game's vocabulary and expanding it for an older audience.

    JumpStart Pet Rescue

    • Split across five game worlds, "JumpStart Pet Rescue" tasks players with rescuing lost pets as characters from the "JumpStart" universe guide them. Along the way, learning challenges teach players object recognition, memory skills, pre-reading and other necessary abilities. More than 50 lessons are available in "JumpStart Pet Rescue," spread across 20 activity types.
