Playing a Star Battle
Aim the Wii remote at the screen and press the "A" button when dice appear above you and your opponent. Alternatively, you can shake the Wii remote up and down to roll your die. Your opponent will roll their die as well. The player with the higher number goes first. Each player begins with a pre-determined amount of coins and stars. The amount of coins with which you begin varies from board to board. Coins are used to purchase candy and stars. Stars are what determine the winner at the end of the round. The player with the most stars wins.
Roll the die when it appears above your head. The die will only appear when it is your turn. Move the number of spaces that corresponds with the number on the die. If you roll a two, move two spaces. If you roll a four, move four spaces. Landing on different spaces results in different outcomes. Blue squares are safe and add three coins to your total. Red squares take away three coins from your total. Landing on a green space means anything can happen. Each green space is different. Some are good, some are bad. Gold spaces result in a coin or star bonus. If you land on a Bowser space, Bowser will steal coins or a star from your total. Once a player lands on a Bowser space, all Bowser spaces turn into DK spaces. If you land on a DK space, Donkey Kong will shower you with coins or give you a star. Once a player lands on a DK space, all DK spaces turn to Bowser spaces. Some boards contain unique special spaces that are only seen on that board. Beware: Some special spaces are good, while others are bad.
Aim the Wii remote at the screen and click the "A" button on the arrow that points in the direction you wish to move. Move towards the star. Each board has a different layout, so look at the map and determine the quickest way to reach the star. After your turn, your opponent will roll the die and take their turn.
Play the mini game after each turn. Each mini game is different and has various rewards, often coins. Instructions are shown before each mini game to show you how to play. For a video tutorial, see Resources.
Defeat all the rounds by earning more stars than your opponent. There are six rounds in all, each of which is played on a different board. The boards are played in the following order: Donkey Kong's Treetop Temple; Goomba's Booty Boardwalk; King Boo's Haunted Hideaway; Shy Guy's Perplex Express; Koopa's Tycoon Town, and then Bowser's Warped Orbit. Once you defeat Bowser's Warped Orbit, you must defeat Bowser in a battle. Bowser flies a small space ship and you must dodge his attacks.
Tilt the Wii remote left and right to dodge Bowser's fire balls. After you dodge a series of three fire balls, hold the Wii remote vertically and press and hold the "A" and "B" buttons simultaneously. Move the Wii remote in a circle to build up power with the magic wand which you obtain before playing Bowser's Warped Orbit. Swing the Wii remote downward toward the screen and release the "A" and "B" buttons to fire a magic burst of energy at Bowser. Continue to dodge fire balls and hit Bowser with magic bursts until his ship gets more powerful.
Dodge the large bullets in the same manner as the fire balls. The bullets move faster and there are more of them, so keep moving. Once Bowser pauses and stops firing bullets at you, build up magic energy and throw it at him. Continue to dodge bullets and hit Bowser with magic bursts until his ship gets even more powerful.
Dodge the lasers in the same manner as the fire balls and bullets. The lasers are much faster and more difficult to dodge. The lasers are too quick and are too many of them to dodge one by one. The key is to maneuver yourself so you are positioned between two laser shots to avoid being hit. Once the lasers stop firing, do not attempt to build up magic energy. Bowser fires large bullets at you immediately after he finishes firing his lasers. Wait until the bullets stop to build up magic energy and attack Bowser. Continue to dodge Bowser's attacks and hit him with magic bursts until he has been defeated. Defeating Bowser unlocks Bowser's Warped Orbit so it can be played in all other game modes.
