How to Pick Up a Toad in the New Mario Bros.

"New Super Mario Bros. Wii" for the Nintendo Wii has special missions in single-player mode in which you have to find Toad, the toadstool, and carry him throughout an entire level to safety. You can't pick up any other objects while you're holding Toad, and if Toad dies, you fail the mission. "New Super Mario Bros. Wii" can be controlled with either the Wii remote alone or the Wii remote and nunchuk accessory, and the method of lifting Toad is slightly different for each controller configuration.

  Enter a Toad-rescue mission by selecting a level that has a bubble with Toad's picture in it.

  Find Toad in the level. You will hear him shouting for help when you're nearby. Walk up to Toad.

  Shake the Wii remote and press and hold the 1 button to pick up Toad if you're using the Wii remote alone.

  Shake the Wii remote and press and hold the B trigger button on the back of the Wii remote to lift Toad if you're also using the nunchuk controller.

  Hold the 1 or B button down as long as you want to continue carrying Toad. Release the button to put him down.
