Fantasy RTS Games
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord puts you in the role of a young princess tasked with building and defending towers against heroes who want to put a stop to her evil. This reversal of the common RPG formula lets you fill rooms of the towers you build with monsters and traps in real time.
Swords and Soldiers is a unique side-scrolling RTS where you build units and equipment that changes based on levels. It may be Vikings, Aztecs or other civilizations.
Animal RTS Games
The two RTS games featuring animals are Lead the Meerkats and Robocalypse: Beaver Defense. Lead the Meerkats charges you with growing a meerkat population and negotiate the struggles they face trying to survive. You will scavenge for food, build defenses, escape predators and care for pups. Robocalypse: Beaver Defense plays mostly like a tower defense game but you can command one elite unit in real time.
Military RTS Games
Two RTS games allow you to command and control military units: Battalion Wars 2, and Military Madness Nectaris. These games are closer to traditional computer RTS games. You will build your base, research new technology and build units to attack and defend the opposing team. Military Madness Nectaris is a remake of the classic game Neo Nectaris.
Retro RTS Games
Metal Marines was originally a Super Nintendo game, and Neo Nectaris was a TurboGrafx-16 game, but both can be downloaded and played on the Wii. These classic games were two of the first RTS games ever to appear on consoles. Similar to the military RTS games, you will build a base and produce units to overtake your enemies. Neo Nectaris is very slow and seems more like a turn-based strategy game.
