Secrets & Hints for Animal Crossing on the Wii

"Animal Crossing: City Folk" is a life simulation game in which a player creates an animal character and tries to make a life in a fictional animal town. The goal is to accomplish tasks to get new items and upgrade your tools. You can also gain an advantage by collecting bells, the game's currency, and using items and areas throughout the game.
  1. Tools

    • You get a gold fishing rod once you find all of the types of fish, and a golden net after you have found all of the types of insects. Your shovel turns golden if you dig a hole, bury it, and recover it the next day. You get a silver watering can after you purchase at least 50 bags of seed at the general store. Put your standard axe in the fountain and pull it out to get a silver version.

    Items

    • Tortimer is a turtle character who gives you gifts only if you talk to him when the calendar reflects a holiday. You can wait for the day or alter the game's calendar to reflect the desired day. You get a leaf on April 1 and a Sailboat model on Explorer's Day. Go to Tortimer on Harvest Day to get a unit of wheat or Nature Day to get a globe. Visit Tortimer on Labor Day to get a picnic basket.

    Collecting Bells

    • You build a fountain once you donate 400,000 bells to the town. Donate 1,000,000 bells to get a windmill and lighthouse in your town. Expand your home by getting a bigger first floor for 120,000 bells and 248,000 bells. You get a second floor once you collect 368,000 bells, and a basement after you get 598,000 bells. You get a kart after you collect 100,000 bells and a parasol after you get 8,000 bells.

    More Hints

    • Talk to any villager to get an invitation to Crazy Redd's store. You can not enter without it. You get money to spend by going to the ATM. You can also make payments to Tom Nook, the town mayor, if you still owe money from the initial loan he gave you. You can earn awards by going to Mr. Truth's HRA building and joining. Each month judges evaluate you based on the sophistication, colors, creativity, nostalgia and furniture of your home.
