Wii Ski Instructions

The Nintendo Wii home gaming console differentiated itself from the other consoles of its generation, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with its creative control scheme options, including motion-sensing controllers and the WiiFit board. WiiFit uses a pressure-sensing board that the player stands directly on. As the player shifts his weight, the board detects the new stance and translates it to the game. In WiiFit, there are two different skiing games, a downhill slalom race and a long-distance ski jump.

Instructions

  1. Slalom Skiing

    • 1

Stand on the WiiFit with your feet facing parallel to each other and at the screen, at approximately shoulder width apart.

    • 2

Lean forward as the race begins so that the balance dot on the screen is in the blue horizontal line, approximately midway between the center line and the top line.

    • 3

Lean to your left or right to carve the skis and turn, leaning farther for a more extreme turn.

    • 4

Pass between each set of flag gates. Missing a gate adds a penalty to your time.

    • 5

Pass through each gate as close to the side the next gate is on, relative to your current gate, as possible, to minimize speed lost to turning. For example, if the third gate is to the left of the second gate, you want to pass through the second gate as far left as possible.

    Ski Jumping

    • 6

Stand on the WiiFit with your feet facing parallel to each other and at the screen, at approximately shoulder width apart.

    • 7

Lean forward so the dot rises to cover the blue dot on the balance icon on the screen.

    • 8

Stand with your weight as close to centered as possible, as indicated by the dot moving left or right. The more centered you are, the more speed you will pick up.

    • 9

Stand up straight as you reach the end of the ramp.

    • 10

Lean forward as you travel through the air.
