How to Make Comets Appear in Super Mario Galaxy

In "Super Mario Galaxy" you will occasionally encounter Prankster Comets that interfere with galaxies and make the challenges much harder. In some levels Mario may only have one bar on his life meter. In others, he must collect 100 purple coins before the time runs out. Each of the 15 galaxies features two of these comets, which contain 30 comet stars for you to obtain. You must complete other levels before these comets will appear in a galaxy. To complete the game with 120 power stars you must deal with the Prankster Comets.

Instructions

- 1
  Earn a dozen stars to unlock the first comet. Rosalina will tell you that a comet has been sighted, and show you where on the map.

  Complete some levels, such as Bouldergeist level in Ghostly Galaxy, and the comet will immediately appear if you have earned at least 12 stars.

  Earn all of the stars in a galaxy to unlock some comets. This occurs once you complete Space Junk Galaxy.

  Defeat Peach's kidnapper in Bowser's Galaxy Reactor to unlock the purple Prankster Comets. These comets require you to find 100 purple coins to earn a power star. After you beat Bowser these comets will begin appearing in the various galaxies.

  Check your map and look for a gray area in a galaxy star tally that looks like a comet. If you replay the missions in this galaxy you may trigger the comet to appear.
