How to Play NTSC Games on a Chipped PAL for the Wii

Wii consoles are made specifically for certain regions. The NTSC versions are created mainly in the United States, Canada and Japan while the rest of the world uses PAL versions of the console. While the Wiis will not play NTSC discs on their own in a console, you can make a few system changes that will make them compatible. With a chip installed and the Homebrew Channel, a few applications will make it easy to play NTSC games.

Instructions

  Use the Wii remote to select the Homebrew Channel from the main Wii menu. In the Homebrew Channel, load the Homebrew Browser.

  Press "A" to load the Homebrew Browser. Wait for the application to make a connection and update the software download list.

  Click on the "Application" tab at the top of the browser. Use the D-pad on the Wii remote to scroll down through the list of applications. Look for the NeoGamma application. Point towards the "Download" icon and press "A."

  Press the "Home" button on the Wii and choose "Return to Homebrew" from the pop-up menu.

  Select the NeoGamma application from the Homebrew list. If the application does not appear, the download may have failed and should be done again. Make sure there is enough room on your SD card memory to store the application.

  Insert the NTSC game into the Wii.

  Scroll down on the menu and select "Config Options." In the "Force Video" option, press "Right" on the D-pad until you reach "PAL480i." This will prevent the game from playing in black and white, which usually happens with the PAL conversion.

  Press "B" to return to the main menu. Highlight the "Load from DVD" option and press "A" on the remote. Wait a few moments and then the screen will flash black and the game will load.
