How to Fix a Laser-Burnt Xbox Game

A common problem that Xbox 360 owners experience is laser-burnt game discs that have circular scratches on them. These scratches are created by the system's DVD drive and often result when the console is reoriented or repositioned while in use. In many cases, the scratches cause problems with the game such as skipping and freezing; however, if the scratches aren't too deep, it's possible to repair the disc at home using polishing compound and some soft cloths.

Things You'll Need

  • Polishing compound
  • Two clean, soft cloths
  • Warm water

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a small amount of polishing compound to a clean, soft cloth

    • 2

Rub the cloth on the scratched area using a radial motion. Start at the center of the disc and rub in a straight line toward the edge of the disc, using a medium amount of pressure. Repeat this process about a dozen times, reapplying the polishing compound to the cloth as necessary, until you have covered the entire scratch.

    • 3

Remove all of the excess polishing compound from the disc by rinsing it with warm water.

    • 4

Dry the disc using another clean, dry, soft cloth. Use the same radial motion to dry the disc as you did to apply the polishing compound.

    • 5

Test the game disc thoroughly by playing it. If the game continues to skip or freeze at certain points, repeat the process by applying another coat of polishing compound.
