How to Make a Makeshift Kinect Stand

The Kinect is a motion-activated system that connects to an Xbox 360 video game console. The Kinect requires a line of sight to a player for input from a player's body movement instead of relying on a controller. One challenge for owners with slim televisions is placement of the Kinect's sensor. But the sensor's slim profile and light weight lend itself to DIY stand solutions.

Things You'll Need

  • Hook and loop fasteners
  • Metal or plastic bookend

Instructions

    • 1

Turn a bookend bottom side up. Test fit the makeshift stand by placing the long side of the bookend down and against the back of the TV set.

    • 2

Cut and stick a piece of hook and loop fastener on the back of the set that will correspond with the long side of the bookend. Stick another piece on the matching spot on the bookend itself.

    • 3

Cut and stick another section of hook and loop fastener to the short side of the bookend resting atop the set. Cut a matching piece and mate it with the fastener in place. Peel off the backing and press down, adhering the stand to the top of the set. The stand now should be anchored at two points on the television.

    • 4

Cut and stick two pieces of fastener to the bottom of the Kinect's base. Cut a matching set of pieces and leave the backing in place.

    • 5

Turn the sensor so that its bottom faces down. Peel off the backing of the fasteners on the base of the Kinect. Press the base of the sensor firmly against the base of the bookend to secure the adhesive.
