Power on your console. Insert the game into the disc drive. If you are playing on a PC, insert the CD into the disc drive and launch the game by pressing "Start," "All Programs" and selecting "NBA 2K11".
Select your game mode to begin playing. For example, choose "Quick Game" to select a team and uniforms.
Position your player so that you can steal the ball during a pass, including inbound passes. As soon as a player begins to pass, use the directional buttons to get into the passing lane. Attempt the steal by pressing the appropriate button on the controller: Press the "X" to steal on the Xbox 360 or PC; press the "Square" button on the PlayStation 3; or press the "Left" button on the Wii remote's D-pad (or move the remote left or right).
Position your player to steal when the opponent with the ball crosses over. Approach the player with the ball using the directional buttons (or the control stick on the Wii version). Press the steal button when you are right next to the player as he switches hands (crosses over). You do not have to be in front of the player; you can steal while positioned at the side of the player.
Position your player to steal when the opponent with the ball runs past you or bumps you. Turn in the player's direction and press the steal button to attempt the steal. You must face the opponent from the front or side to steal.
