How to Flash an Xbox 360 With iXtreme 1.6

The iXtreme firmware replaces the original Xbox 360 firmware, making it possible to play burned game disks on the console. PC software is used to flash the 360 hard drive. This means you must disassemble the console and connect the hard drive to the PC. The drive connects to the PC with a SATA cable. This SATA port is not accessible to many PC owners, so it requires an adapter. However, disassembling and flashing the console will void any warranty.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Disassemble and Connect to PC

    • 1

Unplug the Xbox 360 from the power outlet.

    • 2

Stand the Xbox 360 on its side. Pull off the gray side panel with your hand.

    • 3

Turn over the console, and pull off the front panel with your hand.

    • 4

Stand the console back on its side. Insert the tip of a Phillips screwdriver into the five silver clamps on the front and bottom panels, to dislodge the gray side screens. Then pull off the gray side screens with your hands.

    • 5

Wedge the tip of a knife or flat-head screwdriver into the crevice between the top and bottom console covers, to separate them around the sides of the console. Then pull off the top cover from the console, to access the silver panel underneath.

    • 6

Remove all 10 torx screws from the silver panel with a size 10 torx screwdriver. Then turn the console over. Don't pull off the silver panel.

    • 7

Pull the "Eject" button and cover out from in front of the hard drive on the front of the console, but don't pull it off entirely. This will loosen the top cover.

    • 8

Pull off the top cover with your hands.

    • 9

Pull the hard drive up. Pull out the cable connecting it to the motherboard using your fingers. Then set the optical drive to the side.

    • 10

Plug the iXtreme Connectivity Kit cable into the port on the Xbox 360 hard drive -- the same port you removed the motherboard cable from.

    • 11

Set the hard drive back in your Xbox console. Make sure the drive cover is pushed back into place. Don't reassemble the rest of the pieces. Move the console next to the PC.

    • 12

Insert one end of a SATA cable into the iXtreme Connectivity Kit and the other into your PC. If you don't have access to a SATA connection on your PC, you will need a USB-to-SATA converter. Insert the other end of the SATA cable into the converter, and plug the USB end of the converter into the computer's USB port.

    • 13

Plug the Xbox 360 to the power outlet.

    Flash

    • 14

Download and install DosFlash, JungleFlasher and the iXtreme 1.6 firmware. To install DosFlash and JungleFlasher, click on the download link. Allow the program to download to the computer. Click on the downloaded rar file to install it.

    • 15

Disable the PC drive signature in Windows 7. Click on the "Start" menu, select "Control Panel," choose "User Accounts and Family Safety," click on "User Accounts" and then select "Change User Account Control Settings." Move the slider to the lowest value, then click "OK." This will reset every time you restart the computer.

    • 16

Download the "Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider (DSEO)" from NGOHQ on the PC. Allow the program to download, then click "Next" when prompted by the program. Select "Yes" and choose "Sign a System File." Click "Next" and enter the path: portio32.sys or portio64.sys to the used driver. Click "OK." Launch DSEO on the computer, click "Next" when prompted, select "Yes," then choose "Enable Test Mode." Click "Next" and "OK." Then restart the computer.

    • 17

Open DosFlash after the computer restarts. Click "OK" when prompted by the program.

    • 18

Power off the Xbox 360. Power the console back on after two seconds. This will initiate DosFlash. The green light on the console will then flash rapidly.

    • 19

Save the firmware in DosFlash. You can save it under any name such as "orig.bin."

    • 20

Open JungleFlasher, and select "Load Source Firmware." Select the firmware you saved in the above step in the browser window.

    • 21

Click "Open Target Firmware" and select the iXtreme firmware file "ix15Benq.bin."

    • 22

Click the button "Spoof Source to Target" in JungleFlasher. Then select "Save to File" and name the file anything you want.

    • 23

Go back to DosFlash and select "Erase" from the Flashing Task menu, to delete the firmware from your Xbox 360.

    • 24

Select "Write" in the Flashing Task drop-down menu. Click the "Write Flash" button, and choose the firmware saved in JungleFlasher in the browser window.
