How to Improve on Rock Band

"Rock Band" brought the video gaming music experience up a notch in 2007 by introducing multiple instruments and options for game play. Not only could you shred on lead guitar, but you could tear up a drum set on Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills" or belt out "Foreplay/Long Time" like the legendary Brad Delp of Boston. Like its rival "Guitar Hero," you don't need any formal musical training to ace the game and become a music legend right in your own home Like anything else, practice makes perfect, and the progressive levels in "Rock Band" give you the perfect opportunity to build your skills from "Easy" to "Expert."

Instructions

Watch the tutorials. These give you insight into the special tips and tricks to hit more notes and get better scores. For the guitar, especially, "hammer ons" and "pulloffs" allow you to perform the harder songs by allowing you to hit each note without strumming the bar each time, but using your fret buttons to move effortlessly between them.

    • 2

Practice the songs. Practice mode allows you to break down the songs into separate sections and play them without the pressure of scoring. You can also slow the song down so you can train your fingers to hit the proper notes.

    • 3

Play the game in progression. This starts from easier songs to harder songs. Begin your solo or band tour on "Easy" and build yourself up each level by mastering the previous level. When you consistently score in the high 90 percentile, bump up to the next level.

Warm up your vocals if you are singing. Don't worry about knowing all the words, the pitch is more important. Play around to find the octave best for your voice for the song, which will help you perform songs in higher ranges than you can hit naturally. As long as you are in the same note, even if it's an octave lower, you will still pass the song.

Use proper pedal technique when playing the drums. Improper pedal technique will tire out your leg and cause you pain. Start out with your heel on the floor, depressing the pedal so you will raise it with each orange note. For faster, more advanced songs, keep your heel off the floor about an inch, with the ball of your foot on the pedal.
