How to Change the Windows Live ID Associated With GamerTag

Microsoft created an all-purpose username, known as the Windows Live ID, to tie all of your Microsoft accounts together and giving you a universal log-in across multiple products. For instance, when creating your Xbox Live GamerTag on your Xbox 360 gaming console, you must link an existing Windows Live ID or create one. This helps you manage your GamerTag on the Xbox website or transfer the GamerTag to another console. You also have the option of choosing a different Windows Live ID to associate with your account by managing your GamerTag on your console.

  Turn on your Xbox 360 and log in to your GamerTag.

  Go to the "My Xbox" area in the Dashboard menu.

  Select "Change Windows Live ID," then select "Yes, I do," indicating you have another Windows Live ID that you want to use.

  Enter your current Windows Live ID password and select "Sign in."

  Enter the email and password linked to the new Windows Live ID. Select "Sign in."

  Select "Yes, Change" to confirm the Windows Live ID change. Click "Done" to complete the process.
