How to Format a Data Stick for the Xbox 360

USB flash drives, also referred to as data sticks, can be used to increase the storage capacity of the Xbox 360. Game data, demos, downloadable content and any content downloaded from Xbox Live can be saved to a flash drive. Although most USB flash drives will work, they have the be formatted and tested for compatibility with the Xbox 360. Some earlier USB flash drive models are not fast enough and may not pass the compatibility test, or they may be limited to storing only certain types of data.

     Connect the USB flash drive to any USB port on the Xbox 360. Scroll to the "My Xbox" tab, select "System Settings" and press the "A" button.

     Select "Memory" and press the "A" button. Select "USB Storage Device" and press the "A" button.

     Select "Configure Now" and press the "A" button. The Xbox will notify you when the process is complete.
