How to Easily Mod Neon Lights in Your Xbox

The Xbox game console, for all its graphic-processing ability, often appears dull to anyone looking at it. You can easily modify (or "mod") an Xbox to illuminate the case so it glows with what appears to be neon lighting. You will need supplies from an electronics store or lighting speciality shop and a few tools.

Things You'll Need

Newspaper
Electroluminescent wire kit
Cellophane tape

Instructions

  Turn off the Xbox. Unplug the power cord and disconnect all cables connected to the Xbox.

  Place a sheet of newspaper on a table. Place the Xbox right-side-up on the newspaper. Rotate the Xbox so that the front is facing you.

  Unroll the colored wire supplied with the electroluminescent wire kit. Place an end of the colored wire against one of the Xbox's sides. Tape the end to the side with a strip of cellophane tape.

  Wind the wire around the top of the Xbox and over to the right side. Tape the wire to the side with a strip of cellophane tape. Run the end of the wire around the top front edge of the Xbox. Tape the wire at each edge with a strip of cellophane tape

  Place the Xbox back in its original position. Reattach the cables. Plug the power cord back into the outlet.

  Place the dimmer control box next to the Xbox. Insert the plug at the end of the wire into the socket on the box. Twist the plug clockwise to secure it in the socket. Plug the box's power cord into an outlet.

  Turn on the Xbox. Turn on the dimmer control box. Adjust the dimmer knob to raise the illumination of the wiring that is wrapped around the Xbox.
