Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Won't Connect Online for Xbox 360

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is a first-person shooter game that allows players to connect to other players online for multiplayer games. If you cannot connect to the "Modern Warfare 2" game server, there are a few things that you can do to get it working. Checking your Internet connection via the cable modem and wireless router in your home and the network your Xbox 360 console is connected will get you back online.

  Inspect your home wireless router and make sure that the Ethernet cable is plugged into the "Internet" port on the router. This should be labeled as "Internet." Follow the Ethernet cable to make sure that it is plugged into the back of the cable modem.

  Look on the front of your cable modem to make sure that the lights are lit under the "Send" and "Receive" icons. These indicate whether or not the modem is sending and receiving an Internet signal. Contact your service provider if you do not see these lights lit.

  Check the cable modem to make sure that it is not in "Standby" mode. Standby mode can be tripped accidentally if the modem falls or the button is pressed. Press the "Standby" button to bring the modem out of standby mode.

  Turn on your 360 and scroll through the home screen until you come to the "My Xbox" icon. Press the "X" button. Go to the "System Settings" option and then go to the "Network Settings" option. Choose your wireless network from the list of networks on the screen.

  Enter your wireless password when prompted and then click the "Yes" button if you are prompted to update the console software. Out of date software will inhibit your console from connecting to the Modern Warfare 2 game server.

  Wait for the console to test your connection to the "Xbox Live" server. If you are prompted to renew your Xbox Live account, do so accordingly. You must pay to get online with Xbox Live so keep your account payments up to date.
