Stay in the original room where your player spawns for the first three or four rounds of the game. There are sufficiently powerful single-shot weapons in the room for early-round zombies and only several places for the zombies to spawn. Doing this as soon as you start will help you rack up points quickly.
Open doors to additional rooms as soon as you think you're getting overrun. Standing in the same place trying to kill more than ten zombies with a single-shot weapon will get you killed very quickly. As a rule, run away if you ever doubt that you will be able to kill the zombies before they can get to you.
Establish a route that allows you to run around the entire map. Most maps have interconnected rooms with an entrance/exit on each side, so it won't be difficult to find a good route. As an extra bonus, constantly moving through the rooms will force the zombies to bunch up in groups, making it a lot easier to kill them all at once.
Reload your weapons every time there is a break in the action. This will prevent you from running into a group of zombies unprepared. Also, if your clip runs out and you're in danger of being taken down, switch to your secondary weapon instead of reloading. This is far faster than reloading and it might save your life.
Upgrade your weapons as soon as you have enough points (5,000 per weapon) and purchase the perks, such as Juggernog. These perks give you higher health and quicker reload times, so they can be vital to your survival.
