How to Mount Kinect Behind a TV

The Kinect is an accessory for the Xbox 360. It utilizes a camera to detect movements and incorporate them into game play without the need for a remote control. The Kinect should be placed high enough to detect all movement from the players. The most common places to mount the Kinect are on the wall above the television, or to the television. To secure the Kinect to the wall, you should screw it into the stud; sheet rock might not be strong enough to hold it in place.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

  1. Wall

    • 1

Find a spot to mount the Kinect on the wall above the television. The mount should not be so high that the eye of the Kinect can't detect movement from the players, and the mount should be centered above the television.

    • 2

Power on the stud finder. Place the stud finder flat on the wall and move it from left to right. Its light will turn red when it finds the stud.

    • 3

Mark the stud on the wall with a pencil. If the stud is too far to the left or right of the TV, try to find another stud that is more centered. You may need to move your television slightly to keep the Kinect centered above it.

    • 4

Place the mounting brace flat on the wall and screw it into the stud with two screws.

    • 5

Push the leg on the Kinect mount all the way back, if the mount has an extended leg.

    • 6

Place the leg of the mount flat against the brace so its screw holes line up with the brace's screw holes. If the mount doesn't have a leg, push the mount onto the brace until it locks into place. Make sure the platform that holds the Kinect is facing up.

    • 7

Insert two more screws to secure the mount leg to the brace, if applicable.

    • 8

Place the Kinect flat down on the top surface of the mount. Make sure the locks on the bottom of the Kinect align with those on the mount. The Kinect is now mounted to the wall behind the television.

    Television

    • 9

Remove the sticker from the Kinect mount leg.

    • 10

Turn the mount so the adhesive on the leg is facing forward.

    • 11

Set the mount on top of the television, so its leg is behind the TV and the Kinect eye is resting on top of the TV. Move the leg backwards to accommodate the width of the television.

    • 12

Firmly push the adhesive on the front of the leg into the back of the television. The Kinect is now mounted behind the TV.
