How Do I Get My NAT System Off of Strict When I'm on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2?

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is a first-person shooter game released in 2009 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. If you've been playing the multiplayer mode of the game, you may have noticed that it takes a while for you to get into matches. If this is the case, you need to turn the NAT setting in your router off of the "Strict" setting because this setting prevents a lot of inbound traffic from connecting.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser on your computer and type your router's IP address into the address bar. The IP address will vary by router manufacturer, so consult your router documentation if you don't already know it. Enter your router user name and password when prompted to log in to the setup utility.

    • 2

Click on the "WAN Setup" or similarly named option in the "Advanced" section of the main menu.

    • 3

Select the "Open" option or deselect the "Strict" check box (which option you have will vary depending on your router manufacturer) next to "NAT Filtering."

    • 4

Click "Apply" to save your settings, then log out of your router setup utility. You can now go back to your game in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2." Since your NAT setting is no longer "Strict," joining matches should be quite a bit faster.
