How to Get Rare Drops More Often on Final Fantasy XIII

Monsters may drop items when you defeat them in the fantasy role-playing game "Final Fantasy XIII." The items they drop are usually of the common variety. Rare items, as their name indicates, are only dropped on rare occasion when you defeat a monster. You can increase your chances of receiving a rare item when you defeat an enemy if a member of your active party wears a special accessory called the Connoisseur Catalog.

Instructions

  Play through the game's main storyline until you unlock the Moogleworks shop after defeating Cid in the Fifth Ark.

  Save the 160,000 Gil necessary to purchase all the items needed to buy the Connoisseur Catalog. You receive Gil for defeating monsters and selling items, and it also can be found in treasure chests throughout the game.

  Buy the Collector's Catalog from the Moogleworks shop for 100,000 Gil. Access the Moogleworks shop from a Save Point.

  Open the "Upgrade" menu from a Save Point and upgrade the Collector's Catalog to Level 2. It will cost 1,050 EXP to upgrade.

  Purchase a Mnar Stone from the Motherlode shop for 60,000 Gil. Open the "Upgrade" menu and select the Collector's Catalog, then select the Mnar Stone as the item you want to use to upgrade it. The Collector's Catalog will transform into a Connoisseur Catalog.

  Equip any active party member with the Connoisseur Catalog to increase your chances of receiving rare items whenever you defeat an enemy.
