How to Copy Gamertag to USB

When you play an Xbox game, it is ideal to have your Xbox gamertag accessible so you can sign into Xbox Live and have the achievements you unlock added to your profile. However, when you play on someone else's console, your gamertag is not available on the hard drive. Although you can recover your gamertag, it takes additional time and requires you to complete multiple steps. To load your gamertag on someone's Xbox quickly, transfer it from your Xbox to a USB device and take the device with you.

Instructions

  1. Format the Drive

    • 1

Turn on the Xbox 360, and then press the USB drive into the Xbox's USB port.

    • 2

Select "System Settings" from the dashboard's "My Xbox" menu.

    • 3

Select "Memory" on the settings screen, and then choose "USB Storage Device" from the list of devices.

    • 4

Choose "Configure Now" or "Customize," depending on how you want to format the drive. If you select "Configure Now," the entire drive is formatted for the Xbox and all the data is erased. If you select "Customize," you can choose how much space is formatted for the Xbox and avoid erasing data.

    Copy the Gamertag

    • 5

Return to the Xbox dashboard, and select "System Settings" from the "My Xbox" menu.

    • 6

Press "Memory" on the settings screen, and then select "Memory Unit."

    • 7

      Select "Gamer Profiles."

    • 8

Choose your gamertag from the listed profiles, and then select "Copy."

    • 9

Select the USB device from the list of devices.
