How to Hook Up the Kinect

Microsoft's Kinect is an accessory for the Xbox 360 that you can hook up to play video games without a hand-held controller. Using motion detecting technology and a Kinect enabled game, Kinect is able to tell where you are in the room and how you are moving, controlling the game based on your movements. When setting up your Kinect, choose a large space with an open floor to provide enough room for multiple people to play.

Instructions

  Place your Kinect sensor 2 to 6 feet from the ground and centered with your television on a solid surface, such as the top of your television. Remove any clutter on the floor for better communication with Kinect. Move any furniture within a 6-foot radius of your television.

  Insert the USB end of the Kinect cable into your console and the other end into an outlet for the original Xbox 360, and insert the cable into the console's "AUX" port only for an Xbox 360 S, which supplies its own power to the Kinect.

  Update your console's software using the prompts provided by the console on the television screen iif your software is not up to date.
