Description of Fable 2

Released in 2008, "Fable 2" is the second installment of the action-adventure role-playing saga of British developer Lionhead Studios. The various dungeons, caves, towns and seascapes spread about the Fable world of Albion are fascinatingly beautiful and completely engrossing, but that isn't necessarily what sets "Fable 2" apart. Rather, it's the choices that you can make: good or evil or the gray area in between, and the unlimited ways that the world around you is altered by the decisions you make.
  1. Options

    • "Fable 2" expands upon the original game's "choices have consequences" game play style. For instance, the player can get married and have a family, or have several wives and families. The player can take the role of a man or a woman. Or he or she can take on the role of "slum lord," amassing a billion-dollar real estate property empire. Additionally, choices affect the player's appearance. Too much beer gives the player a potbelly pouch. An evil aura literally grows devil horns for your head, while a "good" moral compass (and morally forthright decisions) creates a halo above the player's head.

    Economy

    • The game's developers have pioneered a new idea in the Fable franchise: The player has the ability to buy, sell and rent real estate. A real estate magnate is still beholden to the signature Fable cause-and-effect mechanics: Charge too much for rent and the people of various towns will turn against you. Each town has a dynamic economy, scored one to five depending on the rent charged by the Hero (high or low) and the amount of trade and commerce taking place in a particular town.

    Introduction of a Companion

    • Unlike the original Fable where the Hero gallivants across various locales alone, "Fable 2" introduces a game-altering sidekick to the equation: a dog. He loves you unconditionally, is always at your side and helps the player find various assortments of treasure. As you age and mature in the game, the dog's appearance changes as well. His personality, however, does not; he's your loyal companion through thick and thin.

    Bodily Expressions

    • "Fable 2" expands upon the bodily expression system introduced in the original Fable game. The player flirts, expresses fun, is rude or scary and expresses gestures (such as waving) increasing his social standing in a town or community. Flirting involves blowing a kiss or making a compliment, rude gestures include belching or passing gas and the player proclaims, "boo!" immediately frightening both adults and children.

    DLC Sidequests and Gargoyles

    • "Fable 2" also introduces a first for the Fable series: Lionhead released DLC (down-loadable content) after the game's release. The first release, "Knothole Island" introduces a new area to the game, finding the player in the middle of the mystery of the icy-cold persistent freeze of Knothole Island. The second DLC called "See the Future" takes the Hero on a quest where upon prevailing he/she sees the ultimate future of Albion. Additionally, a special in-game quest finds the player hunting down and shooting 50 gargoyles for a treasure reward.
