How to Convert an Old Xbox to HDMI

The Xbox 360 was introduced in 2005, offering high definition video. One of the sought-after methods of connecting the 360 to a modern high definition display is through the high definition multimedia interface (HDMI). However, early versions of the Xbox 360 did not offer HDMI output, necessitating the use of an adapter. Although these adapters do not allow audio over HDMI, they still provide high definition video to compatible displays.

Locate the audio/video port on the back of the Xbox 360. Remove any A/V cables that occupy this port.

Plug the HDMI adapter into the A/V port. Locate the HDMI output port on the adapter and plug your HDMI cable into this.

Plug the optical cable into the matching port. Find this port by looking for a square-shaped door or removable plug. Remove the plug if present prior to insertion.

Connect the HDMI cable to an open HDMI port on the back of your television. Plug the other end of the optical cable into a free optical input on the back of your A/V receiver. If you do not have an A/V receiver, plug a set of red and white audio patch cords into the adapter and television.
