How to Fix Your Xbox From Having the Green Power Button Flash

The Xbox game console allows users to play games, listen to music and a variety of other multimedia functions. The green power button, which often flashes rapidly, can be an annoyance if you don't know how to disable it. Actions such as the disc tray opening and closing or streaming content, if using the Xbox 360, may cause the green power light to blink excessively. The Xbox enters into low-power mode after the console has been shut off. Proper system configurations must be set to avoid internal complications.

Instructions

    • 1

Power on the console and check to ensure the disc tray isn't opened. Check to see that a CD isn't stuck inside of the machine, which will prevent it from closing. Remove the CD and restart the console, if stuck in the drive.

Detect if your console needs an update; place a game into the CD drive and start the game from the main dashboard. You will prompted to restart the console if an update is detected. Select the "Yes" button and restart the console.

    • 3

Unplug all cables from the console and TV. Ensure the connection cable is a Microsoft cable. Other cables may not work or cause faulty interference from the Xbox to the TV. Connect the correct cable to the Xbox and TV and power on the console.

Reset the console by holding down the "Guide" button on the controller and selecting the "Turn off the Console" option. Manually power the system off if it doesn't respond to the command on the controller. Press and hold the power button on the side of the system for three seconds and then let go.

Take the console to an authorized technician if none of these steps work.
