How to Turn a Router Into an Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver

The Xbox 360 console allows users to browse the Internet, message friends and play their favorite video games online. Unlike the PlayStation 3 or Wii consoles, the Xbox 360 does not have a wireless device built into the console. While you can receive wireless signals using a Microsoft adapter that ranges from $100 to $200, you can turn a wireless router into a wireless receiver for your Xbox with a few adjustment to your router settings.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your wireless router and connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the "WAN" port on the back of your wireless router. Attach the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the back or side of your computer.

    • 2

Open a web browser of your choice and type 192.168.1.1 into the web address bar. Press "Enter" to activate your wireless router settings.

    • 3

Type "root" as the username and "admin" for the password. Press the "OK" button to access your personal wireless router settings.

    • 4

Click on the "Administration Panel" across the top of the page and switch the wireless router to "Client Mode" in the drop-down menu.

    • 5

Remove the Ethernet cable from the back of your computer and attach it to the Ethernet port on the back of your Xbox 360 console. The Xbox 360 should automatically detect the incoming Internet signals and update the firmware to accept incoming wireless network connections.
