How to Rotate Objects in Forge

Forge is a special game mode in "Halo 3" and "Halo Reach" that allows you to customize multi-player levels in a variety of ways. You can place and manipulate weapons, power-ups, vehicles and other objects as you see fit, and can create a variety of different level variants that can drastically change how game play on a given map plays out. Rotating objects is a basic and essential ability of Forge, and you can rotate objects by holding the right trigger and moving the control sticks while holding an object.

Instructions

    • 1

Press "Up" on your controller's direction pad while in the Forge game mode to enter "Edit" mode. You must be in "Edit" mode to place and manipulate objects in Forge. You will transform into a monitor and will begin to float.

    • 2

Look at the object you want to rotate so that the object is under the reticule at the center of your screen. The reticule will turn green and a green hand icon will appear under your reticule. Press the "A" button while the hand icon is visible to grab the item. You can move the object along the X and Y axis with the left control stick and can raise and lower the object by pressing the left and right bumper buttons.

    • 3

Lift the object into the air until the object is free of any obstructions. Use the right control stick to rotate your view around the object until you are facing the object at a right angle. You can rotate objects from any viewing angle, but right angles allow you to easily rotate objects with precision.

Pull and hold the right trigger to enter rotation mode. Tilt the right control stick up and down to rotate the object toward or away from you, tilt the right control stick left and right to rotate the object left or right and tilt the left control stick left or right to rotate the object clockwise and counter-clockwise. You can control the object's rotation speed by tilting the right control stick to varying degrees, with light tilts rotating objects slowly and heavy tilts rotating objects at full speed.

"Halo Reach" allows you to rotate objects by degrees with the "Rotation Snap" feature. Press the "B" button while holding an object to open the "Special Tools" window, then select the "Rotation Snap" feature with the left control stick. Tilt the left control stick left and right to select varying Rotation Snap increments. The object you are rotating will now rotate by those increments when you rotate the object.
