How to Mod My Gamertag With a Transfer Cable

If you've had to replace your Xbox 360 console, you can purchase a transfer cable that will copy all the data from the old Xbox 360 hard drive to the new console. This allows you to keep all your game saves, downloaded content, gamertag data and other media stored on the drive. Once all your data is transferred, you can modify your Xbox Live gamertag on the new console. While transferring the data may take some time, changing the gamertag will only take a moment.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the hard drive of the old Xbox 360 console, if you have not already.

    • 2

Connect the transfer cable to the old Xbox 360 hard drive. Plug the USB end of the transfer cable into a USB on the new Xbox 360 console (with the power off).

    • 3

Power on the new Xbox 360 console. Select "Yes, transfer to console" from the dialog that appears when the hard drive is detected.

    • 4

Select "Start" to begin transferring the data from your old Xbox to the new one. It may take several hours to complete.

    • 5

Navigate to "My Xbox" to log in to your Xbox Live account when the transfer completes.

    • 6

Select your gamertag within the "My Xbox" menu, select "Change Gamertag."

    • 7

Select "Enter New Gamertag." Enter your new, modified gamertag. Click "Yes, use this gamertag" to save the changes.
