How to Mod Your 360 Controller to Shoot Faster

Your Xbox 360 controller is designed to operate guns, within a game, based on their firing nature; whether the gun fires in a semi- or fully-automatic fashion. The Rapid Fire mod re-routes the circuit board's trigger mechanism to an exterior-mounted trigger that fires every type of weapon system as fully-automatic, allowing the gamer to shoot more ammunition, faster. This mod works on all wired, wireless, resistor and non-resistor X-Box 360 controllers.

Things You'll Need

  • Wireless X-box 360 controller
  • Rapid Fire mod package
  • Solder gun
  • Duct tape
  • Spray cleaner/degreaser
  • Paper towel
  • Torx security #9 screwdriver
  • Magnifying glass
  • Razor blade
  • Dremel tool with cone sander bit

Instructions

    • 1

Place a strand of duct tape over the push buttons on the face of the controller to ensure the buttons remain in place as the face is lifted away the base of the controller. Wipe the controller's surface clean with a paper towel and cleaner spray to help the mod's exterior components securely stick to the controller.

    • 2

Unscrew the seven torx screws from the back side of the controller, using a torx security #9 screwdriver. Place the controller face up on a solid surface and lift the faceplate away from the base to reveal the circuit board.

    • 3

Set the kit-provided magnet onto the free-spinning metal wheel of the left rumble pack. The left rumble pack is a large, round component near the rear of the controller's left hand grip. This magnet will later function in tandem with the Rapid Fire's surface-mounted sensor to enable fully automatic firing on all weapons.

    • 4

Remove the rubber button mat from the upper, right-hand section of the controller. Locate the three metal terminals to the right of the right-hand joystick. The terminal knobs are positioned in a vertical, straight line. Touch the solder gun tip to the kit-provided wires, on the middle and top knobs, ensuring no solder metal touches the bottom knob. (Note that the wires come ready to solder with solder paste pre-coated on their tips.) Use a magnifying glass to verify the bottom knob is not touching the soldering metal from the middle knob. If spill-over occurs, use a razor blade to scrape away material, separating the two knobs.

    • 5

Cut a crescent shape into the edge of the controller, directly to the right of the newly soldered wires, using a Dremel Tool and cone sander bit. This crescent allows the Rapid Fire mod wires to escape through the side of the controller while allowing the controller's face and base to snap together properly.

    • 6

Set the rubber button pad back into its position on the circuit board, set the wires in the crescent and press on the faceplate of the controller. Screw in the seven torx screws to secure the two controller sections back together. If the right-hand rumble pack motor falls backward, use a small screwdriver to prop it up while snapping the controller together. Remove the duct tape from the buttons.

    • 7

Fold the Rapid Fire mod wire under the right-hand grip and press it onto the controller via its double-sided tape once the most comfortable position is found. This trigger is pulled with your middle or ring finger, on the underside of the controller. Continue to run the remaining wire under the controller toward the rear of the left-hand grip. Stick the sensor, which represents the end of the mod wire, to the inside edge of the left-hand grip, in a position that does not interfere with your left hand. Like the trigger, the sensor is equipped with double-sided tape, so the mounting process is simple. Your controller is now equipped to shoot faster by making all weapons fire in an "automatic" fashion -- including pistols and shot guns.
