How to Recover a Gamertag When I Can't Save the Profile

Your Xbox Live gamertag is a unique username used to identify you when playing games on your Xbox 360. Signing in to your gamertag allows the Xbox 360 to track your system preferences, unlocked achievements and online friends. If you have deleted your gamertag and can't save the profile, you can recover your gamertag while connected to Xbox Live. This will cause the Xbox 360 to download all the information associated with your gamertag to a designated hard drive device on the Xbox 360.

     Power on the Xbox 360.

     Press the Xbox "Guide" button on the face of the game controller.

     Highlight "Recover Gamertag," then press "A" on the game controller.

     Select "Recover Gamertag" again to confirm the operation.

     Follow all on-screen instructions to recover your gamertag on the Xbox 360.
