Lucas Translation Hints

On the surface, the Lucas's Translation Pro Challenge in "Skate 2" seems a lot easier than it actually is. The challenge is fairly straightforward -- cross a pool by sliding across a series of platforms on your skateboard. This ends up being much more difficult because of a transitional gap between platforms, but there are a few things you should keep in mind to make the challenge easier.
  1. Central Path

    • There are a total of four paths you can take to cross the pool. Two are the outer sides of both platforms -- the far left and far right sides of them. Taking either of these paths makes doing the trick unnecessarily difficult. When you start the trick, go for either of the inner paths. This gives you more options for jumping the gap between platforms, which makes things easier.

    Nose Slide versus Tail Slide

    • How you start this trick ultimately determines how you position your board once you jump the gap. Many players find it easier to start with a nose slide, then transition to a tail slide once you jump the gap. This really depends on your comfort level because there is no discernible difference between either transition outside of which way you move the thumbstick. It's all a matter of preference.

    Jumping the Gap

    • This is one of the more difficult parts of Lucas's Translation because a lot of players tend to overthink it. You don't need to do anything particularly fancy to cross the gap and transition to a tail or nose slide, depending on which one you started with. You are only mimicking the motion of the board with the thumbstick. For example, if you started with a tail slide on the inner left side, you'll be holding the thumbstick to the left as you slide toward the gap. Once you get to the gap, smoothly turn the thumbstick in a half-circle to transition to the inner right side over the gap while switching to a nose slide.

    Finishing the Trick

    • The worst thing you can do in Lucas's Translation is to try to do another trick before you land. Avoid doing an ollie off of the rail because doing so only increases your chances of falling, which will result in failing the stunt. Keep things simple and just ride the rail to the end and jump off as you normally would.
