The Appearance
Unlocking and equipping the Armor of Altair changes Ezio's usual silhouette. Ezio's original robes, which he received from his father, go over Ezio's standard clothes, so his sleeves, pants and shoes are visible and unchanged. However, Altair's Armor largely covers Ezio's legs, so the pants cannot be seen. Instead of the typical white of the Assassin Order, the Armor of Altair is black with red and gold details. The layers and segments on the Armor of Altair is supposed to resemble eagle wings, especially when in motion.
Health Bonus
The Armor of Altair gives the player 25 health diamonds, which is the maximum amount. The pauldrons have four health diamonds, the chest guard has six, the vambraces have two and the greaves have three. This is combined with Ezio's own 10 health diamonds. The player must equip the armor pieces together as a set, and they cannot be combined with other pieces from other sets. This is different from the standard armor pieces, which can be mixed as the player sees fit.
Unbreakable
Regular armor from blacksmith shops must be repaired frequently, especially if the player has taken a lot of damage from fights or falls. Once the armor breaks, the corresponding health diamonds will not fill, even if the player uses medicine. The health diamonds cannot be used until the armor is repaired. However, the Armor of Altair is completely unbreakable. Each piece of armor has a resistance of eight, the highest in the game, so it can survive lots of damage.
Altair's Robes
Alternatively, players have the option of unlocking Altair's original robes from the first "Assassin's Creed." By accessing Uplay, Ubisoft's online counterpart, players can trade 30 points to unlock Altair's Robes. When Ezio equips this outfit, his character model is replaced with Altair's, including the missing finger. This outfit is purely cosmetic and will not have any effect on Ezio's health or notoriety, so it can be equipped over the Armor of Altair without changing Ezio's amount of health diamonds or the resistance of his armor.
