The gamertag is the user name of the Xbox Live online service. If you've purchased a new Xbox 360 console (or had yours repaired), Microsoft allows the user to recover their gamertag to the new Xbox. This means that all your settings and game saves associated with your Xbox Live account, previously stored on the old Xbox 360, can be restored to the new console. If you have recovered a gamertag (or a friend has, for example) to your Xbox and wish to undo this, you can simply delete the gamertag from the Xbox.
