How to Create Items in Torchlight

Players fight ghouls and goblins in the mines below the title town in "Torchlight," a role-playing dungeon crawler from Runic Games. Players choose from three character archetypes -- warrior, wizard and archer -- to begin their adventure. While exploring the caves below Torchlight, players acquire ember, a mystical substance that allows them to create weapons and armor with special properties. By gathering similar types of ember, players can create new types of ember, which create even more powerful equipment. Players must complete quests and explore dungeons to gather ember.

Instructions

  Accept quests given to you by the townsfolk and explore the dungeons below the town to acquire ember. You can buy ember occasionally from the magic shop in Torchlight, but you find most of the ember in the game through exploration. Each type of ember has its own special properties, and the more you acquire, the more varied the equip you can create.

  Take the ember in your inventory to the alchemist in Torchlight to create stronger versions of the ember. Combining identical pieces of ember creates a new piece of ember that possess stronger magical properties. Stronger ember allows you to create more powerful equipment to aid you in your exploration.

  Open your inventory menu, select the piece of ember you want to use, and press the "A" button to "socket" the ember. Select the piece of equipment in your inventory you want to transform using the ember. Ember can only be used on equipment that has available sockets.

  Take your equipment to the enchanter in Torchlight to create new sockets. The effect the enchanter has on your equipment varies; it may add new a socket, create a new piece of equipment or destroy the piece entirely. Any effects the enchanter places on your equipment cannot be removed later.
