How to Get Your Horse to Drink Water in Red Dead

Horses are the vehicle of choice for the game's protagonist, John Marston in the Wild West shooter "Red Dead Redemption." The horses in "Red Dead Redemption" are programmed to behave like real horses-- when spooked they will rear up, when rode too hard they will buck the rider and when they get thirsty they will drink water. You cannot actually force the horse to drink, but you can set up the best conditions for the horse to want to drink on its own.

     Ride your horse to a body of shallow water, such as a river or stream. Get as close to the water as possible.

     Dismount from the horse by pressing the dismount button.

     Walk away from the horse slowly so you can watch it but you're but not so far away that it starts to follow you away from the water.

     Watch the horse and wait for it to put its head down near the water and take a drink.
