Decide before you start what kind of hero you want to use. Will he be a quick-footed fencer? A powerful mage? A dead-eye sharpshooter? A combination of all three, perhaps? It is important you know before going in what type of hero you want to create so you can focus on gaining experience in that specific skill type.
Fight enemies. Experience in "Fable II" is gained by defeating enemies, and is used to level up your character's abilities. There are four types of experience in "Fable II;" red, green, yellow and blue. Green experience orbs are "universal" orbs and can be applied to any of the three disciplines. Yellow, blue and red experience are used to level up ranged, melee and magic respectively.
Kill enemies with weapons pertinent to your desired abilities. When you kill enemies with magic, you will gain magic experience. When you kill enemies with ranged weapons, you will get ranged experience. Tailor your combat styles to the type of hero you want to use.
Level up only your desired abilities. You will gain all four types of experience in "Fable II" as you play the game. If you want to create a very specific type of hero, you will need to ignore one or two ability categories and instead concentrate on leveling up just the abilities you want your character to use. You can, of course, level up all three abilities but you will lose any uniqueness your hero might have from other players' heroes.
