Learn the Maps
In all "Halo" games, it is helpful to understand the maps. This allows the player to know where all the valuable weapons are in the game and reach them first. Memorizing maps allows players to recognize choke points. Controlling vital parts of the map can be essential for victory. For example, if a player has control of the middle of the map, it is likely they will have control of a strong weapon. Away from the center of the map, controlling high points can be helpful. Their control allows a player to get a battlefield prospective of the entire map.
Monitor Personal Stats
Shields, health, and weapons are the three components that allow a player to survive. Throughout a match, the player must constantly check his shield and health, and make sure his weapons are full of ammo. If shields, health, or ammo levels are low, he must instantly take time to maximize them. Going into a battle lows on any stat is unwise. Luckily, "Halo" shields regenerate and ammo and health packs are found throughout the levels. It is also smart to always carry plenty of grenades. They are powerful and can turn a battle in your favor.
Play by Weapon
Many weapons exist in the "Halo" franchise. Each one is designed for a different purpose. It is wise to carry certain weapons for certain situations. For instance, a player trying to fight a battle from a distance would not want to use an assault rifle. They are only accurate at close range. Instead, he should use a sniper rifle as they are accurate at long distances and have a scope which allows the player to zoom his view closer to his target. On the other hand, if this same player is fighting an up close and personal battle, he should not use the sniper rifle. It is not good for close combat. Instead, he should carry a shotgun. It does heavy damage in close quarters.
Play by Game Mode
Besides playing according to the weapon being carried, players should consider the game type when playing "Halo." Rounds with capture the flag elements require completely different strategies than slayer matches, for example. In capture the flag, it is important to be extremely conservative and defensive to protect the flag. It is also wise to communicate with teammates to pinpoint enemies. On the offensive end, players must be extremely aggressive and chatty with teammates. Collaborating allows teammates to plan how they will steal the other team's flag. In slayer mode, on the other hand, players generally stick together to maximize fire power. Again, communication is vital for pinpointing enemies.
