How to Get Past the Spider in Limbo

Pairing a distinct black and white art style with puzzle-based exploration, the 2010 Xbox Live Arcade release of "Limbo" introduced players to a dark world filled with various traps and hazards. As a player navigates the world as an unnamed boy, the puzzles placed through the world threaten instant death upon failure. One such danger, a giant black spider, confronts players early in the game. As with all other obstacles in "Limbo," the spider must be passed in order to progress. However, directly confronting the spider will result in quick death via impalement.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk towards the spider until you see one of the creature's legs rise up and begin to track you. Once the leg rears back, immediately move out of the way and let the leg strike the ground. Repeat this step once more; you will hear a clang as something falls to the ground behind you.

    • 2

Walk to the left, leaving the screen with the spider, until you see the trap that has fallen to the ground in the previous step. Press the "A" button to jump over the trap.

    • 3

Turn towards the trap and press the "B" button to begin pushing the trap. Push the trap to the right until you return to the spider.

    • 4

Stand in place in front of the spider until the leg lifts again. Once the leg rears up and prepares to strike you, pull the trap into the place you were standing. The spider will strike the trap with its leg, causing the trap to cut off the leg.

    • 5

Repeat Step 6 two more times on the next pair of legs. After the first leg of this pair is removed, step out of the way to avoid the retaliation strike from the last leg. Once you have cut off the third leg, the spider will move and allow you to pass into the next area.
