Purchase the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS as your first car. It allows you to access the "North American" race series, which awards large cash payouts for winning, as well as high-quality prize cars, which are useful for performing well in the later events.
Complete the first three race cups until you gain access to the "Boosted Shootout" showcase. The prize for this race is the 1992 Do-Luck Supra, an ideal car with which to enter the Asian Races. You gain cash bonuses each time you re-use a car, meant to simulate your gaining fame and recognition from the audiences. As a result, it's best to use as few different cars as possible. Start with the best car you can and stick with it for as long as possible. Upgrade rather than replace your vehicles in order to maximize your earnings and level up quickly.
Complete all the race events in a region, then move to the next, using the highest-rated car in your garage from the first race onward. Pre-Customized and tuned cars from pro tuners such as Tommy Kaira or Wings West will give you an advantage over the stock models in single-model races, saving you from having to upgrade them yourself. When you have completed all the events for which a car is eligible, sell all the upgraded components to get some of your money back before selling the car.
Unlock the Endurance events, which is key to leveling up quickly. As soon as they become available, purchase a Nissan Skyline R34 or similar-rated car. Upgrade everything and tune it as best you can. Race and re-race the Endurance events to earn huge payouts that will level your character up quickly. The Endurance events are longer than the normal races, but a win will pay out much more than a standard-length one. If you're not a fan of the long-length races, hire an AI teammate and have him complete the events for you.
