How to Share an Internet Connection With an Xbox 360

With many new games containing options to play online, users who never connect their Xbox 360 to the Internet are missing out on a substantial amount of functionality and gameplay. Your Xbox 360 has a built-in Ethernet card that allows it to connect directly to a router. Once connected, you can share your Internet connection with your Xbox 360 and enjoy your console online.

      Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your Xbox 360. Plug the other end into your Xbox 360 router. The Ethernet port looks like a phone jack, only larger.

      Ensure that all of the other connections have been made to your router. This includes the power supply and the cord from your cable or DSL modem.

      Turn on your router and modem.

      Turn on your Xbox 360.

      Test your Internet connection under "System Settings" on the "My Xbox" tab. Proceed to "Network Settings" and press "Test Xbox Live Connection." If you are prompted to update your software, select "Yes."
