Mission Achievements
Each mission in "Halo 3" has two achievements tied to it. One achievement is unlocked for completing the mission on normal or higher difficulty levels. The second achievement is awarded for getting at least 15,000 points during most missions, except for the sixth and seventh mission which require 50,000 points. There are also three achievements for completing the entire campaign on each difficulty level, except easy. The mission completion achievements are "Landfall," "Holdout," "The Road," "Assault," "Cleansing," "Refuge," "Last Stand," "The Key" and "Return." The mission score achievements are "Guerilla," "Demon," "Cavalier," "Askar," "Exterminator," "Ranger," "Vanguard," "Orpheus" and "Reclaimer." The campaign completion achievements are "Campaign Complete: Normal," "Campaign Complete: Heroic" and "Campaign Complete: Legendary."
Collection Achievements
Each campaign mission contains hidden terminals and skulls. The terminals display a page of text when examined. Examining all of the terminals unlocks the "Marathon Man" achievement. Each skull unlocks a new option that alters the gameplay during a mission when active. An achievement with the same name as the unlocked option is also earned for each individual skull. The achievements unlocked for finding the skulls are "Iron," "Black Eye," "Tough Luck," "Catch," "Fog," "Famine," "Thunderstorm," "Tilt" and "Mythic." Skulls can only be found on normal or higher difficulty levels.
Kill Achievements
There are numerous achievements that are unlocked by getting enough kills with a specific weapon. All of these achievements can be unlocked in ranked free-for-all online games. In some cases, these achievements can also be unlocked during the campaign missions. "Two For One," "Triple Kill," "Overkill," "Lee R. Wilson Memorial," "Killing Frenzy," "Steppin' Razor," "Mongoose Mowdown," "Up Close and Personal" and "Maybe Next Time Buddy" are only unlockable during ranked free-for-all matches. "Too Close to the Sun," "We're in for Some Chop," "Fear the Pink Mist," "Headshot Honcho" and "Used Car Salesman" can be unlocked in ranked free-for-all or during the campaign.
Other Achievements
There are four additional achievements that do not fit the other categories. "MVP" is awarded for having the highest score on your team at the end of a team vs. team match. "Graduate" is earned by gaining five experience points, which is awarded for winning online matches, or playing 10 total online matches from start to finish. "UNSC Spartan" is unlocked for reaching the online rank of Sergeant, which occurs when you have earned at least 20 experience points. "Spartan Officer" is unlocked for reaching any online officer rank for the first time. Officer ranks work different because you need a minimum amount of experience points and "Trueskill" rank. Trueskill rank is determined based on how effectively you play during online matches, so it cannot be earned solely by playing enough missions. You are guaranteed to unlock this achievement if you have at least 70 experience points and a Trueskill rank of at least 10.
