How to Recover a Lost Gamertag

A Gamertag is a username for the Xbox Live service, Microsoft's online component to the Xbox 360. If you've had to replace your Xbox console or hard drive -- or simply erased the machine -- you can recover your Gamertag from Xbox Live. Recovering your Gamertag ensures all your achievements and game saves are restored to your Xbox, even if you purchased a brand new console. The process is simple and requires an active Internet connection.

     Power on the Xbox 360 without any discs inside.

     Select "Xbox Live" from the dashboard, then navigate to "Recover Gamertag From Xbox Live."

     Select "Gamertag." Enter the Gamertag you wish to recover, then click "Done" and "Next."

     Enter the associated email address and password. Click "Sign In." Once signed in, the lost Gamertag profile, settings and data will be recovered and downloaded to the Xbox 360.
